    The Mutant Calamari —Richard Marchetti
Hey Y'all: Unceremoniously, I reveal my latest design: The Mutant Calamari. See it here: (URL) most excellent fried in breadcrumbs and then served with a little red sauce and lemon juice... After my negative review of the new #4796 Mutant Squid I (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general) !

Re: The Mutant Calamari —Mark Sandlin
(...) I like the bendy-arm solution, but I think the old 4x10 canopy is fairly tired. The boxy shape doesn't do much for me either. What if you combined your bendy arms with the new canopies? ~Grand Admiral Muffin Head (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: The Mutant Calamari —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) I'm in agreement here, really--you can close up the new "clamshell" pretty easily, with black 1x6 pieces available in the other $10 sub. I think that the "rounded" nature of the canopy would lend really well to the redesign of the arm section. (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: The Mutant Calamari —Richard Marchetti
(...) It looks good. Although I haven't yet seen the new black sub parts that would close up the sides. I find the new canopies are a little stunted looking, so no matter what I think one needs to extend the middle area. The angles of the new (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: The Mutant Calamari —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) You can also use 3x3 angle bricks to "space out" the shells, if need be! The big advantage, it seems, is in the ability to make "rounder" (or more octagonal?) flattened shapes. (...) Sure they could--they just couldn't be articulated *right* (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: The Mutant Calamari —Lindsay Frederick Braun
Sorry, self-correction: (...) This still wouldn't allow you to use the claws, of course, unless you were really willing to have a LONG unarticulated section (to use the 3L friction peg double to axle-holder). (...) not black, dark grey. Ooops! best (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: The Mutant Calamari —Evan Butzlaff
J/w.... Review? I've never seen pictures of most of the new sets... I saw the shark when I was ordering my Final Duel I & II which, by the way, have arrived, and there are only 2 weeks and one day left till I open 'er up. Could you give me a link (...)      (...) Evan, Richard has posted a great looking scan of the new Alpha Team sets here: (URL) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: The Mutant Calamari —Dave Johann
(...) Ah, so that's your angle. Okay, let's run with that. (...) Just how it should be. However, I'd prefer to see the smaller A-Wing and B-Wing cockpit covers used for this project. As a matter of fact, the B-Wing cockpit would almost be perfect (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: The Mutant Calamari —Thomas Main
(...) Richard, I prefer your design over TLC's. The most notable improvement seems to be your use of the bendy arm segments. While I applaud TLC for trying to incorporate the dino tails in new designs, a squid's legs/arms just scream for the (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: The Mutant Calamari —Richard Marchetti
(...) Yeah, that's a really good point. The dino segmented arms are not very posable except that you can rotate them in different ways. I don't hate the new squid arms, but they do not inherently possess the functionality/utility of the bendy arm (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: The Mutant Calamari —Dave Johann
(...) I'll agree with your 'new builder' statement. This year, you would be out of luck. What I propose is a rotation of parts from year to year. Bendys one year, something new the next, and never an overdone number of any part in a single set. 25% (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)
