My story is not directly related to your question, but I thought it might be
interesting enough to tell anyway:
I haven't lost my collection as such, but as I moved from Ireland to Holland
the movers messed things up big time: some of the boxes opened, and on
arrival there was Lego everywhere in the truck....
As I'd only been in Ireland a few years my main collection was in Holland,
and I only had a few sets there. I ended up rebuilding every set, and made a
list of the missing pieces. I told the insurance agent that because of the
missing pieces each of the set was now next to worthless, as I could no
longer build the models. I also told him that since Lego does not sell
replacement parts it would be hard to get the missing pieces back.
He reckoned that only 3% of the pieces were missing, so I should get 3% of
the value of the sets, that's a standard rule. Because I convinced him of
the difficulty of retrieving the parts he put 10% in his report, but that
still wasn't gonna break the banks....

It recently occured to me that if my house burned down I would have a hard
time convincing the insurance company that I've invested thousands of
dollars in my collection.  Can anyone out there tell me how they've dealt
with this problem?  Has anyone lost their collection and had to deal with • this?

(...) What type of insurance were you dealing with in that case? Home-owners, movers? Felix (23 years ago, 10-Dec-01, to lugnet.general)
