If the bags are well-organized, leaving pieces in the bags is just a way of
pre-sorting everything.  My least favorite approach to building is to make • a
big pile of pieces, and go for it.  Occasionally, I'll dump everything, and
then sort it into a neat layout -- line up all the 1x4 plates, and all the
wheels, and so on.  But usually I will either leave the pieces in the bags,
or

.....................

dump each bag into its own pile.

This sounds acceptable to me, but, are you really patient enough to
line-up/sort all the pieces before starting to build your "long waited, most
wanted, newly purchased, lovely nice thing"..:-D

Hmm.  I didn't notice that when I was building my TIE/Y.  Oh, right--I • dumped
all the parts out of the bags.

I don't ever recall seeing the exact same piece (i.e. same piece
and color) in two different bags in a set before.  I am building
the Tie/Y-wing set that I got from S@H today (the first set of
all 5 that I've received so far), and while building I found I
needed another dark gray 1x4 plate.  It wasn't in the bag where
I had already grabbed a couple so I thought there were was a
piece missing.  Then looking ahead I saw a couple more.  So I
started looking through the other bags and found them in a
different bag.  Has anyone else ever found identical pieces
in different bags before?

(...) I'll do it sometimes. Often I don't have time, so I want to move quickly. Also, if I know I'm not going to be able to finish in one session, I'll need to be able to put everything away neatly. (...) Heck yes! In the case of 8880, 8480, and 5571, sorting them, even though it took hours, GREATLY shortened the build time. AND it let me see just how many of a neat piece were in each set. (26 years ago, 19-Mar-99, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.general)
