"LEGOLAND California, a Southern California theme park near Carlsbad, paid
tribute to the victims and families of Tuesday's attacks in New York and
Washington D.C. The park features a Miniland attraction where the two cities
are prominently displayed. On Wednesday morning Park employees placed red,
white and blue floral wreaths at the cityscapes. This area of the Park is
constructed out of nearly 10 million LEGO bricks. The skylines of New York
and Washington DC are built on a 1:20 scale to actual size.
LEGOLAND model builders worked overnight to rebuild every American flag used
in Miniland, lowering each to half-staff. The placement of the wreaths, and
the re- building of the flags, started out as a way for LEGOLAND employees,
called Model Citizens, to show their support for the victims, survivors, and
rescue workers in the affected city. Word spread yesterday, and guests
arrived this morning to help the MCs pay tribute."
