My sentiments as well!
To those of us who do that job, it hits home pretty hard! My fellow
firefighters and I were watching on TV when the towers collapsed. I was
hoping that the fire fighters had cleared the area, but I knew in my heart
that there were many who didn't. Now it looks like the loss is
considerable. Living in a smaller city, you come to appreciate the lesser
chance for something like this to happen. I'm not sure I would still be
doing this job if I was in a place like New York. But the nature of the job
is that you can find yourself in a situation that may cost you your life at
anytime. The same fact goes for the people on the plane and in the towers
when they were hit. You never know when your time is up! I guess we can
all be thankful that it didn't happen to us and maybe never will. It's a
wake up call to be more appreciative of what life has given us and maybe put
our priorities in order. You never know when you might be next. To those
of you who were just trying to do their job, I salute you! May God Bless!
Let us all hope and pray that this incident doesn't lead to the loss of
lives of other inocent people in other places through retaliation. Remember
that it's not the religion, the race, nor the nationality that makes people
that way. It's hate! If you become asorbed in hate, you become the same as
the terrorists. Let's rise above that and find a way to punish only the
guilty and to keep this from happening again.
Peace to All!
Tom
