I think most of the stygma comes from what people either remember building when
they were kids or what their own kids build with what is probably a much
smaller assortment of parts then what most of us have to work with. For some
reason the equation:
AFOL + bigger budget + more parts + more paitents = bigger and often better
creations.
Just doesn't click until they see it laid out in front of them.
I think if we had the resources to sell our models as kits we probably could
have made a pretty penny over the weekend.

Well to tell the truth, with our experiance the people at this show were very
well behaved. See the first public show NELUG ever did was MIT's Mindfest.
That was a very hands on show where the train shows are generally hands off by
nature.
That doesn't mean people didn't touch or that the Metroliner didn't make a
couple trips to the floor but we made it through in good shape. We will
probably have a barrier next time but I really like having the trains running
as close to the people as possible. They really got into checking out the
detail as it went by.
