The most certain and fast way to get old sets is online auctions, but they
can be pricey.  There is a marketplace newsgroup here on lugnet.  Check it
out.  I have found old sets in garage sales and thrift stores at very good
prices, but it is rather hit or miss (mostly miss).  I've found most of my
buys by letting relatives know I am in the market and would not only
appriciate being told of Lego at sales, but that I would repay them if they
bought some for me.  Luckily my mom knows the difference between Lego and
its clones.  She and my Dad are retired and can go to garage sales on
Fridays.  Another source that some lucky folk have had was at small out of
the way toy stores, but I haven't made that work.  Not enough travel, I
guess.  Some have reported success with ads placed in very local newspapers.
I have seen an ad (will buy Lego) posted on a community bulletin board at my
local grocery store.
Good Luck,
Carolyn Cheney

Hello all,
Sorry, newbie post here, so if this gets answered every week, I apologize.
I am thinking of restarting my Lego collecting habits from when I was a kid,
and I'm particularly interested in classic Space and classic Castle sets.
Where, apart from online auctions (where you can't be certain that your bid
will win), have you found places to purchase old sets/minifigs/parts?
Vintage toy stores?  Yard sales?  Etc.  I'm interested in hearing your
success stories and advice on this.  Thanks...
