From looking at the online material about the Kit I was left with a question
about the camera that perhaps you can answer from having seen it demonstrated.

To me it looks like you have to have the camera hooked into your USB port to
work.  I saw it listed in the product facts that the USB cable is 15 feet long.

So is this true?  Do you have to have the camera hooked to your computer in
order to use it?

If so, this makes the product somewhat non-useful - at least for me.  The
space where my pc is set up does not allow for the nearby building or display
of my LEGO creations.  Always having to be within 15 feet of the pc is not
realistic for me.

Concerning the editing software - it is by Pinnacle. I have PCTV Studio USB
from the same company and while I had (and still have) some trouble with the
part of this application that captures video and still images - the editing
part is really great.  It's amazing simple to place clips/still in desired
order, add any of dozens groovy transitions, add sound effects, music,
voiceovers (which can be mixed together).

For examples of what I've done with similar software from Pinnacle (mainly
used it create end-credits, add music and delete a few short flubs from my
original video) you can check out my newish website at:

Okay that's all I have to ask/say about the camera/software - folks can go
back to gushing over the new pieces - after all it's the LEGO part of the
whole package that counts!

(...) Yes, from what I saw the camera does need to be connected to the PC by a 15' USB cable. I also asked if the editing software could be used to output to FireWire, the guy said he wasn't quite sure.... I think it is a QuickCam VC, so there (...) (24 years ago, 15-May-00, to lugnet.general)

I saw the thing today, in person at the LEGO Media Booth at E3. It is pretty cool! The guy demo'ing it said that it came with over 300 pieces, and from what I saw it looked like a city street that had been taken over by a minifig movie-crew - and a (...)
