This is kind of long though I believe worth reading.
I have to totally agree with you here Gary, Kids today aren't being
taught patience and how to wait for something, and the joy of waiting.
It's a total "Instant satisfaction" world. We have microwaves because we
can't wait for something to cook, we have drive thru's because we can't
be bothered to get out of our vehicle. We have people so far in debt
because they need it NOW, and instead of saving the money, put it on
their charge card. Kids today just aren't being brought up with the
morals and values we learned as kids. I find that very sad :(
I think in some ways that's why we fight against the juniorization so
much, we see what it's doing. They are selling out to what the world is
becoming and not trying to help it become a better place. I think those
of us with kids will find our kids in a much better place within this
society when they grow up, because we will instill those values. the
patience, the desire, and the knowing that all good things come in time,
not instantly. And that you have to WORK to get to that point. be it
proved with a toy in early age or proved on the job in later years. they
will have the knowledge. It's just to bad Lego and other companys can't
see that. I know it's up to the parents to make sure the kids understand
and accept those values, though when a corporation as large as Lego
can't help you strengthen them. It's all that much harder.
I'd really love to see a study of kids done, take 10 kids from an AFOL
family and 10 kids not from one, and see how much difference there is in
the kids. See who has the better attention span, who has the better
motor skills, who's logical thinking is more honed. My bet is on the
AFOL kids :)
