BricksWest 2002 is proud to announce the BricksWest Animation Festival to be
held at the BricksWest 2002 Convention located at Legoland and the Grand
Pacific Palisades Resort & Hotel. Two divisions have been created and
participants may enter as many times as they want in each division.

The first division, Stop-Motion Animation, uses the LEGO® System products
including bricks, mini-figs, and special elements with the techniques of
stop-motion animation to create an "original" cinematic production. The creator
of this work is allowed to use either the LEGO® Studios Steven Spielberg Movie
Maker Set or any software and hardware combination at their disposal to produce
the stop-motion cinematic art. There is no limit on the quantity or the type of
LEGO® System set produced by the LEGO® Company.

The second division of animation, Computer-generated animation in which the
physical image of LEGO® element such as a mini-fig is not video taped but is
instead created using computer hardware and software. This will allow
participants with a limited supply of LEGO® bricks and elements to participate
in another form of the cinematic arts. Individuals participating in this
division may use any software and hardware available to them to create 3D or 2D
representations of LEGO® System pieces and elements to create an "original"
cinematic production.

A winner will be declared in two categories in each division. The first
category is the Conference Attendees Choice Awards, the ChA-ChA Award, and will
be decided by ballot of all of the attendees participating at BricksWest 2002.
The second category is the Conference Organizers Award, the ChO Award, and will
be decided by the organizers of the conference and their special guests. We
hope to have employees from Legoland and LEGO Direct participate in the judging
as well as some special guests yet to be announced. In keeping with the
traditions of other animation festivals, you do not need to be present to enter
or win.

The BricksWest Animation Festival Chair must receive all entries no later than
January 31, 2002. This is required so that the Animation Chair can convert all
entries to the desired format for viewing at the conference. You may submit
your entries in a variety of ways, so please consult the rules and the FAQ for
details.

The obvious question on everyone's minds is, can you submit work that has
already been submitted to other competitions and festivals? The answer is yes
with one caveat. If your animated film has won in the past then that animated
film is not eligible for consideration in this festival.

All entries must be less than the 5 minute time limit. There might be an
opportunity (still in negotiation) for your entries to be viewed at Legoland by
visitors to the park during the days of the competition. If this opportunity
presents itself, only age appropriate animations will be shown, but all entries
that comply with the rules will be judged.

The rules (in a week or so) and the FAQ (there now) can be found at the
BricksWest 2002 Web Site at http://www.brickswest.com/

Good luck to all participants, and thank you for your submissions.

Todd
