Hi everyone-
Jon Babcock from Syngress Publishing here. I just returned from California
and BricksWest last night (Wednesday). I want to thank everyone I met, both
organizers and attendees (they kind of blurred together at the end there
;-), for making my trip such a pleasure. I can't remember the last time I
met such a large group of people who were so friendly and willing to "talk
shop" with someone who has only recently dipped his toe back into the LEGO
waters. All of you made what was a business trip for me seem much more like
a vacation!
I saw some confusion about the two LDraw books on the forum--the "LEGO
Software Power Tools" book we put out a few months ago and Tim's "Virtual
LEGO" book he's working on w/No Starch Press. I hope anyone who met Kevin
Clague (one of the auhors of "Power Tools" and the creator of LSynth and
LPub) and I at the convention now realize that Syngress is neither "evil"
nor "cloners" ;-). These two books were developed independantly of one
another and I'm sure they will both reflect that. We wish Tim the best of
luck with his book--No Starch has already put out a couple of excellent LEGO
books (Think the Sato and Nagata books), and I'm sure Tim's book will follow
in that tradition of quality--especially after meeting Tim and seeing how
dedicated to the LDraw community he is.
Anyway, thanks again to everyone who made BricksWest such a pleasure to
attend for me--Tim, Matt, Todd, Steve (B), Darrell, Steve (P), Dan, Abner,
Ashley (good luck w/the writing career ;-), Paul, David, Eric, Kevin, Jake,
and everyone else who I met and talked to but whose name doesn't spring to
mind right now due to my reverse jet-lag. I'll be in touch with many of you
and I hope to see you all at BrcikFest this summer!
