I’m a little late in posting this, but I told KK Quah that I’d post a show report to LUGNET... So here it is...

Back on Nov. 10th thru the 12th, the Greater Florida LEGO User Group (GFLUG) did a 3 day display in front of the LEGO Imagination Center in Orlando, FL, in front of 250,000 people -- the official attendence Festival of the Masters ‘07.

Now if you haven’t been to a Festival of the Masters event in Downtown Disney, let me give you a little bit of a background. This is the 32nd year for the Festival of the Masters. The event is concentrated on the West Side & the Marketplace of Downtown Disney. On the West Side, over 200 award-winning artists showcase their wares in outside booths between the House of Blues & the Cirque du Soleil big top and scattered throughout the West Side -- some of the pictures on Flickr might giver you a sense of how many booths there are scattered over the West Side. Then in the Marketplace (or the east side), Central Florida Chalk Artists Association transform 6,000 square feet of sidewalk into giant canvas for more than 50 chalk artists -- it’s an mind-blowing site to see. Again, check some of the general Flickr Images to see just how amazing some of these artists are... Now mind you, the chalk artist spend 3 days on their hands & knees in 70+ degree weather & sometime not in shaded areas. It drizzled only a little the morning on Sunday for a few seconds, but these artist have to worry about the morning dew. It’s a very tough media to work in.

A master LEGO builder was brought in to work with the kids. The play area was transformed into a construction area. Kids built basic larger ‘bricks’ that the master LEGO builder transformed into a 6-7 foot Yoda. The kids got to ask questions of the master LEGO builder & received a building certificate for assising in building the gaint Yoda.

The LEGO Imagination Center asked GFLUG to showcase LEGO creations based on movies & TV -- this year we had MOCs based on Spiderman, James Bond 007, Batman, Harry Potter, Star Wars, classic horror movies, Casablanca, the TV series Lost, War of the Worlds, Disney’s Little Mermaid, Spongebob Squarepants, 20,000 Legues under the Sea, Fantasia, Lilo & Stitch, Pirates of the Caribbean, & more. There were 10+ people in attendance from GFLUG.

Cards with triva questions (one easy question & one hard question) were printed up on laminated place cards in front of MOCs (answers were on the back). This really got the audience involved in our display.

Crowd pleasers: Our younger club member wow the audience with his very detailed Hogwart’s Castle. KK Quah’s Lost scene was easily recognizable -- and most women picked Sawyer over Jack (4 to 1) in our unoffical “Jack or Sawyer?” survey. Joe Meno’s Nautilus caught the eye of many ‘older’ Disney fans. And my Little Mermaid montage was a crowd pleaser of younger Disney fans.
