Just back after a short trip down to VA. Of course I stopped at the Lego
Store at Potomac Mills.
Now this place is a Lego Company Store - right off a major interstate in a
location that generates tons of foot traffic. You might expect it to be a
real showcase - and (in theory) home to some bargains since it is in an
outlet mall.
I have to wonder if it's worth the detour each time. The Mindstorms
selection was minimal - makes you wonder about long-term support. Here
would be a great place for a "demonstration display" - but no.
There were some of the special sets from Lego Direct but the overall
selection was disappointing. I'd expect this store to have a FULL product
range but not really..... OK, there's a good Duplo selection along with the
"Girl" Legos along with the "other" Lego merchandise - clothes, mugs and
such buttoo limited a selection otherwise.
I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a clearance center for discontinued
items - in which case I'd expect lower prices - or a showcase - in which
case I'd expect a fuller range of items.
I picked up some Bionicles on sale for some odd parts that might be worth
playing around with and some minor other items but I had to ask about
Mindsstorms items - like temp sensors (none were out - they were in the back).
Oh, and later at a Zainy Brainey in the midst of shoppers heaven off 3 in
Fredricksburg - a place that I thought was a logical outlet for Mindstorms -
none in sight.
