(...) I'm saving up to buy an NXT - at Developer's Special, or full retail, I'll likely get one the first chance I get. But I'm not remotely thinking the RCX will be "obsolete" in 6 months. One, the NXT doesn't have IR... yet. It wouldn't surprise (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.dear-lego)

(...) It'd be a nice nostalgic moment to see a battery tender version of the IR system, based on a short wheelbase. If you take a hacksaw to this one, your wheelbase is still going to be a minimum of 14 studs long, if you have the wheels right at (...) (...) Also, for locomotices, the IR plate could be used on rolling stock pulled by a shorter loco (this is how most of the old 4.5v trains worked). Doesn't wor for trolleys though :( (...) My thoughts on the new battery-powered IR-controlled trains (BPIR trains)... First a quick summary of the reports that I've read here on lugnet.trains. 1. OK, I've got a German retail price for the NXT now: EUR269. This includes a 16% sales tax, and so it is amazingly close to the american price, although still somewhat higher. Yours, Christian (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.loc.ca)

Is it likely that all 100 of the people chosen for early NXT testing will know of LUGNET and post their findings here? Should LEGO set up a forum on legofan.org or mindstorms.com? How about nxtbot.com? It would be nice to have a single place to get (...) (19 years ago, 8-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic, lugnet.dear-lego, FTX)

(...) Hey, don't complain, you're still well-off as a Canadian... When this set comes to Europe at the usual Lego "exchange" rates, we'll propably have to pay EUR300.00 for it - about US$350+. yours, Christian (19 years ago, 5-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.loc.ca)

Mindstorms NXT -> "suggested retail price of $249.99 (USD) and $379.99 (CAD)." What is going on? US$250 = CAD$286. I can save CAD$90 - shipping just by importing it from a US toy store, and possibly more if it slip pass custom. I have noticed (...) (19 years ago, 5-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.loc.ca)
