(25%-30% drop

Its not exactly a ringing endorsement of TLCs approach is it?
Taking a very broad view of the market - ie kids - the markets changing. Kids
seem to be abandoning traditional toys and picking up video games earlier.
Taking a more narrow view of the market - ie brick based toys - Mega Bloks
seems to be winning more market share and certainly seems to be winning more
retailer shelf space. Is their product more in touch with the market? Or are
they just better at working with the retailers? Id be sad to see Lego product
become more like Mega Bloks in order to survive.

That cant be blamed entirely on the color change, but does
anyone here think that the color change actually increased sales?

That would be impossible to gauge, even for TLCs marketing gurus. But reading
between the lines, I dont think TLC really would have expected it to
immediately affect sales. I think it was just another of those tweaks that (they
thought) would make the overall system slightly better.
