First off, lets define universal color.
Universal Color (aka Locked Color): An evergreen color that would not be
changed, dropped, or modified without serious discussion that includes all
stakeholders, including adult hobbyists and LEGO Company executive
management.

One of the aspects of the colour change that most justifiably upset AFOLs was
the impact it had on their collections of bricks for MOCs.
Try to think from the AFOL MOCer perspective and maybe you can share with us the
following lists as well (one of these is tongue in cheek):
Common Colour (AKA Universal Colours?): Good candidates for collecting large
selections for MOCs. Likely to be available in bulk part packs and tubs.
Rare Colour: colours unlikely to ever be available in a broad selection of
parts
Seasonal Colour: colours which are deliberately big this year (eg sand
blue?) but wont be big next year.
Extinct Colour: Colours not in use and unlikely to ever come back
Endangered Colour: Current Colours unlikely to survive into the future
Feral Colours (aka the range of colours in Knight Bus appriximating purple):
Colours which cant be guaranteed to be consistent from one brick to another
I understand that you are limited in what you can share publically, but have a
think about it. AFOL ears are well tuned to this kind of message - maybe you can
send out some signals that wont be heard be competitors.
