  Re: Wheels in medieval Japan

I got in on this string a bit late so if I repeat what someone else said I apologize. I was an Asian History major in college and I must say that one of the best movies depicting medevil era Japan is the Movie "Shogun" by James Clavell (spelling?). (...)   Re: pics of my castle's new church...

(...) On my quest to index everything of interest to me in lugnet.castle, I'm down to about 430 posts to process... (24 years ago, 31-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

New chrome pieces are so awesome!

Hey all, I received a baggie of chrome parts from an Ebay auction today and outfitted my knights with them. It's great to see the breastplate available in such a small set, and the chrome Dragon Master helm is great! I hope this is a trend that (...) (24 years ago, 31-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Wheels in medieval Japan

(...) I couldn't agree more, muskets don't belong in castle, nor do cannons fot that matter. But since the ninja theme came with 'gunpowder' I figure you just keep the traditional castle away from fuedal japan, except for the occasional encounter. (...) (24 years ago, 31-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Chrome Set 4819

(...) Yup! I had my find today at the local Farm & Fleet; they only had seven sets left from the chrome series (wish I could have gotten there when the toy section opened on Friday, but my car was in the shop). Anyhow, I bought them all up for the (...) (24 years ago, 31-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle, lugnet.loc.us)

  Re: Wheels in medieval Japan

(...) Recently, I saw "Throne of Blood" (1957), a great film by Akira Kurosawa. Subtitled, of course. Its a remake of "Macbeth". It is also called "Cobweb Castle" and "Spider Web Castle", or by its Japanese title, "Kumonosu jo". This movie is in (...) (24 years ago, 31-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Wheels in medieval Japan

(...) "Ran" *IS* fabulous but its late medieval if medieval at all, primary weapons in it are bows, swords and MUSKET'S. Fabulous scene of the various sides going back and forth with the advantage swinging one way or another.... My view is muskets (...) (24 years ago, 31-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

Re: The beginnings of my gallery

(...) Yeah, if i do say so myself, I'm pretty impressed with him. I kinda got tired of him. He was finshed in about June, and has been just getting moved around, then I'll take a few peices off of him to use in something else, then rebuild him. I (...) (24 years ago, 31-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

Hi Karl. I spotted your dragon the other day. Very cool. I look forward to seeing more. ~Mark "Muffin Head" Sandlin (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Wheels in medieval Japan

(...) It captures the sweep and movement of battlefields very well. The movie can also be a little tedious at points. Kurosawa's films always seem to hover around 1600 (firearms usually appear) and I recommend them in general: Seven Samurai, (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Chrome Set 4819

(...) I just called as of 3pm Mon Oct 30, 2000 and I was told that 4819 will not be available until next year. The operator told me that there was a code of A1 for this set which she had to ask about. I do not know if the information she received (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  The beginnings of my gallery

(URL) everyone, please check out my Brickshelf gallery, I'll be updating it constantly in the next few days. I know there's not much now, I'll get lots of pics of the dragon tonite, and post character backgrounds tomorrow hopefully. LMKWYT! <<KM>> (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: More Pics....

(...) Wow, what kind of a material did you print onto to get those custom decals? I need some for a custom fig I wanna do. I also xposted this to build.minifigs <<KM>> (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle, lugnet.build.minifigs)

I actually have already visited your Nagateppo site through Brik Wars. I have already gathered ideas from your battle...excellent weapons! (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Wheels in medieval Japan

(...) I haven't seen it yet myself, but from what I hear Akira Kurosawa's "Ran" is far and away the best movie for medieval Japanese battles. While ninjas had every kind of bizarre weapon you could think of, traditional armies had a very basic (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Wheels in medieval Japan

Along this line of question, what other weapons were used in fuedal japan? I always add armies to the castle series (european, but I have never prepped an army for the ninjas. I have plenty of figures to make an army, I just haven't done it because (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Wheels in medieval Japan

(...) Your sanity prevails: wheeled vehicles were under extreme restrictions in Japan. In part for the damage they did to the roads, and in part to keep the peasants in their place. Bruce (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: More Pics....

The symbols are all decals, which is why they are so crisp. If only I had that steady of a hand to paint with..... Also, the paint I used is water soluable, so, if I really wanted to, I could pull the paint off the armor and helmet without much (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Uneven coloring in chrome shields from 4819

60 sets! Now there's dedication to the cause. Meanwhile, I've called Consumer Affairs (US), and the answer is that their "test" model there has the same marking pattern, so apparently it's intentional. (The representative actually put me on hold in (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Wheels in medieval Japan

Ug. I already replied to this thread, but It occurred to me that there may also have been a "class taboo" on wheeled transportation. That is, only the emperor or high ranked samurai could use them? Of course, if that were true, then the samurai (...) (24 years ago, 30-Oct-00, to lugnet.castle)
