I went through this. Search for Brown 1x in news.
Think Star Wars. Think Droid Fighter. If you can still find that in stores. Many
other Star Wars sets used basic brown parts: Naboo Swamp, Lightsaber Duel,
Desert Skiff (I use the brown railings as decorative patterns.) Get one copy of
these sets and consider what you can use. SW continues to feature brown pieces
but those are the low hanging fruit. There are some brown bits in Western sets
like Chief's Tepee. However you'll pay a lot to get very few -- it's slow going.
Try the online parts sellers of course.
Does it really have to be brown? (Yes sometimes it does...)

| (...) Of those, looks like Naboo Swamp is the best bet at 2 1x3s and 2 1x4s for plates... Was hoping there was something better out there. :) Fortunately, while looking for the new chrome sets at the local Osco Drug (they didn't have any) I did come (...) (24 years ago, 30-Sep-00, to lugnet.castle)
