They have been making the swords out of this "softer" plastic for a
few years now, they had started sometime before nov 1995 (the end of
my "dark ages"). I had never broke any of the old ones as I only had
a few and any lose meant less to play with (new LEGO was not a very
common experience for me at that time, most of it was used and as
such had few of the newer elements of the day). I certainly wanted
more LEGO not less even then :^) Besides there was ALWAYS the threat
of " if you don't take care of what you got now..." I'd prefer to
have the more solid ones back, but I feel it actually may be a safety
issue versus swallowing and such more than anything else, cannot say
for sure.
