Hi all,
I present Castle Drachenschlaf, the Castle of the Sleeping Dragon.

There is a story behind this castle, which involves a terrible dragon, a wizard,
a magic ax, a sleeping spell, and a princess, but Ill leave that for another
time. For now, I present the pictures.
Many of you saw earlier versions of this castle several months ago, either
online, or on public exhibit here in Vancouver, BC. The castle is now complete,
with all its towers, and even has an authentically modelled medieval cog (ship)
coming into to unload its cargo at the wharf. The design of the castle is based
on 2 or 3 of my favourite fantasy castles, with a few other touches thrown in
for good measure. Of course, Ive borrowed a few building techniques from a
few awesome builders as well.
The completed castle was displayed for the first time at last weeks NWBrickCon
2005, where I was honoured to win several awards for it, including both Best of
Show awards (AFOL and public vote). However, I think the highest honour for me
was the privilege of being sacked by a gang of cutthroat Space (Space!) pirates,
who (temporarily) unleashed a plague of fleebnorks, and overran the castle for a
few hours. Too cool! Ive included a few pix of that crisis as well.
I hope you enjoy touring the castle as much as I enjoyed building it! I truly
love building castles, and bringing Drachenschlaf to life was a joy. All of
your comments and questions are most welcome.
Regards,
Robin Sather

Drachenschlaf is like a text book on how to make minifig-scale LEGO castles - I'm going to be referring to this for a long time to come. Thanks for all the hard work, (...) | (...) Robin, I can certainly see why this was a prize winner, the originality and level of detail are great. I love the cog, that's an amazing ship for brick (non pirate hull) construction. I love the odd shape of the castle, it's not just a square (...) (19 years ago, 13-Oct-05, to lugnet.castle, FTX)

| (...) Wow, that is just lovely! Such a variety of shapes, and none of them boring rectangles. Angled walls, hills, round towers - so much to see and admire. Great job, definitely worth spotlighting! JohnG, GMLTC (19 years ago, 13-Oct-05, to lugnet.castle, FTX)

| (...) This is fabulous. Great attention to detail. As other have said, all the curves and twists and turns make it even more wonderful. Did you consider mixing new grey and old grey together for the castle walls? (if not on this project, on others?) (...) (19 years ago, 13-Oct-05, to lugnet.castle, FTX)

| Excellent work, I particularly like the height of the base all around... really makes it look like a 'crop' from a bigger world. I think that is my faviorite part : ) Though the ninja walls covered by arches look great, the various angles are mind (...) (19 years ago, 15-Oct-05, to lugnet.castle, FTX)
