Hi, out there I’ve been reading the posts in various news groups for ages now and finally decided to get started posting my own stuff (So I’m probably what most people call a “newbie”).

About me: My fascination with Lego began at age eight and has been an enjoyable hobby (all right maybe more of an obsession at times) ever since. I have a modest Lego collection however, it is entirely made of randomly bought regular sets i.e. I have never bought a set or part specifically for a creation. My castle elements are rather limited so my creations will be confined for now mainly to ground troops and siege weapons.

About the creation: This is an example of my primary fascination with castle: siege engines and early gunpowder weapons. The two bombards are pirate/wild west cannons in custom frames (I am currently eyeing one of the rare firing cannons I found on the internet so there may be another in the works) this was relatively simple to do and I liked the result. The other thing is my version of a springald (I may have the wrong name for this type but that’s how the illustration in the book looked) it uses the springy action of the ladder piece to ram a spear through a tube (this is actually how it was described as working in that book I mentioned if you substitute a board for the ladder piece). The string is just for show there is no way of “cocking” the machine. As you can see from the close up I used as simple worm gear mechanism with a crank to effect turning. This system could use improvement as to change direction you must crank until the worm gear to the stop on the other side. I’m sure that there is some way to stop it before but it might interfere with the other gear.

Please send some constructive criticism I could use it,

Peter

Hi Peter, I like your cannon very much. The wooden frame, gunpowder barrels, and minifigures are nice. I would like a better look at the catapult but the photos are quite blurry. Some of the cannon photos turned out really well so you probably just (...) (20 years ago, 4-Nov-04, to lugnet.castle, FTX)
