So, yeah, that was sorta the idea behind the new castle project and behind the
classic sets way long ago (though admittedly the classic sets weren't *quite* as
modular as what you're talking about here).
But, here's a thought on that-- how about "keep" modules?
The basic idea behind the Classic Castle City standard is to be modular on a
horizontal level. But how about being modular on a vertical level, too? What if
you could have someone design, say, a dining hall, a kitchen, servant's
quarters, king's chambers, armory, war room, throne room, guest quarters,
ballroom, etc, etc, etc for a gigantic keep?
I'm thinking maybe 16x16 for each module, must be enclosed, have 1+ walls facing
the exterior (with some sort of window standard), with doors in fixed locations.
Then, could have a skeleton structure for the keep itself, which could be
stacked under. And of course at the top you'd have a series of modular
crennellated roof toppers to finish it off....
Ultimately I spose you'd want to be able to slide modules in & out, but that
would mean really making a much more structured skeleton, which would most
likely reduce the modularity. UNLESS... hm... Maybe each module has its own
frame that can be slid out with respect to its own outer wall? That way only the
frames need to stack, and the modules can still be easily moved around for
viewing, etc.
Quite clearly gone off the deep end,
