Ive noticed this effect too, and I wonder if this doesnt have something to do
with the Ldraw parts not being modeled as solids, so with transparent pieces you
get some artifacts from the reflectivity of the inner and outer surfaces of the
part. Have you tried using the windscreen part from Anton Raves library? (See
here for a compatibility wrapper by Steve Bliss:
http://news.lugnet.com/cad/dat/parts/?n=4794) The renders on Antons site
have very natural-looking trans windscreens.

2nd what can I do to keep the whites from washing out.

What are your lighting settings? I find the lights need to be set very low if
not completely off (when using radiosity) to avoid that overexposed look.
Nice render overall.

| (...) As additional follow-up, both of these issues may be improved a bit if you use the lugnet color files, assuming you were not already doing so. There's an option for this in the latest radiosity include file at www.digitalbricks.nl -- the (...) (21 years ago, 25-Aug-03, to lugnet.cad.ray, FTX)
