This can easily be done with LPub, a program that takes LDR/DAT/MPD files as
inputs, and creates POV-Ray images easily.  Most people use LPub to create
building instructions, but LPub can also be used for single images.  You can
control the resolution, as well as orthographic projection.

The trick that LPub uses to getting orthographic to work nicely is twofold.
First in L3P use a camera angle of 1 (-ca1) or smaller but greater than 0.
After L3P is run, you can edit the POV file and put the keyword orthographic as
the first line in the camera definition near the bottom of the file.

The first run with -ca1 should give an (almost) orthographic look.
If you want a 100% orthographic view you should put the keyword "orthographic" into the POV file.
But why would you want the first run then?
To place the camera?
