It just hit me. Until just now I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get use
to using MLCad, having started with LeoCad. It has to do with what elements
are being shown on the screen.

LeoCad shows: all the elements up to the current step

MLCad shows: all the elements up to the currently selected element*
OR just all the elements in the model.

This subtle difference is what's been throwing me off. I find it really
distracting that when I'm trying to work out the elements for a particular
step and they suddenly disappear when I'm working on a previous element...
Has anyone else noticed this?

SUGGESTION TIME:
I was hoping that Mike would consider adding a second check box that would
"Draw to current step only"

* A check box for "Draw to selected part only" is found under the Rendering
Tab of the MLCAD option dialog box.

Not a bad suggestion. Till then, when you are working out the parts that
should be in steps, try getting in the habit of clicking on the "spacer"
(the step itself)

Also if you multiselect I believe that it draws to the very last part
selected so I get in the habit of selecting the step, THEN selecting the
parts I want to eject from the step, then unselecting the step and dragging
the parts to where I want them to go. (forward or backward)

Hope that helps.
