Maybe you moved the workspace before adding part and it was not visible?
Anyway...
- Open a fresh new LeoCAD instance
- Click on "Brick 1x1" in the right listbox
- Press "Insert" key on the keyboard (this is the only way to add new parts)
- You should get a nice, red brick in the middle of your screen!
The rest of the model is up to you...
