This is a fantastic idea and a very fitting tribute! James passed away just as
I was first getting into LDraw, and even though he and I never corresponded
directly, I've had a few email contacts with his family in the subsequent
decade.
Obviously, his contribution to the AFOL community is enormous, and I daresay
that it changed fundamentally the way people discuss LEGO online. Sure, someone
would likely have come up with something similar had James not done so, but the
simplicity and elegance of LDraw allow it remain a powerful tool and to grow in
ways that I doubt James could ever truly have anticipated.
There have been so many contributors to LDraw these ten years past, and every
newly authored part or rendered MOC is a tribute to James. I even flatter
myself to think that my own apocryphal contributions are themselves a tribute to
him, and I reflect upon his efforts every time I use LEdit.
Thank you, James, for giving us a tool for building a community.
Dave!
