So far, two bugs have been found in the Mac LDView 3.2 Beta 1 release that cause
it to crash, and then subsequently crash every time it is launched. Im posting
a workaround for each of these problems here in the hopes that it will reduce
peoples frustration with the Beta.
The first bug occurs when you create a new preference set and then exit. The
next time you launch LDView, it will possibly (probably?) crash. It doesnt get
far enough for you to fix things. The first step in the solution is to delete
the file /Library/Preferences/com.LDView.plist. This will reset LDView back to
having all default settings again, so you will then be able to launch it. The
second thing to do is to not do anything on the Preference Sets tab of
Preferences. Ive tracked down the source of this bug and fixed in my copy of
the source code, but I dont plan to release another Beta with the fix.
The second bug is that I neglected to include the font file that LDView uses
when Show frame rate is enabled and the status bar isnt visible. If you
disable the status bar (via the View menu), there is a possiblity that LDView
will immediately crash. It will then likely crash every time you launch it.
Delete the plist file as explained for the above bug. Also, if you switch to
full screen mode, you will run into the same problem (although that wont
prevent you from subsequently launching LDView). Fortunately, this font problem
has a better solution. Download
this file, and
store it on your desktop. It will then need to be copied to the
/Applications/LDView/LDView.app/Contents/MacOS/ directory.
Since LDView.app is treated as an application by Finder (and not a directory),
you need to right click on it and select Show Package Contents. Then browse
into Contents/MacOS and paste the file. If you get a permission denied error,
you might have to do it on the command line. Run Terminal, and then enter the
following two commands (assuming you saved SansSerif.fnt onto your desktop):
cd Desktop
sudo cp SansSerif.fnt /Applications/LDView/LDView.app/Contents/MacOS/
The second command will prompt you for a password. You need to enter your own
password here. This will only work if your account on your Mac is set to be an
Admin.
Sorry for the problems; I hope this helps.
