What if we dither 14 and 14 - what would the colour number be? 494? -
for condoctive areas and let the new rendering programs treat them as
special cases, chrome or so, maybe a little duller, while LDraw keeps
drawing them yellow?

That sounds like a very good idea. I have changed the FAQ to reflect
