Almost any part which has convex curved surfaces will need type 5 lines.
Obviously if you can make use of the circular primitives, then they already
include the type 5 lines.
For example take a look at the town/space helmet (2446) of mine. The top
surface is made up of a series of conic sections (actually 16-sides prisms).
The joins between each of the 16 facets needs to be a type 5 line, as do the
circumferential lines between the layers. A good way to learn how to model is
to look at other peoples work (not just mine) - and a good technique for this
is to take a copy of the part, and change the colours of one section at a time.
This way you can see how the complex surfaces have been built out of series of
quads. Also (in LDraw at least) type 2 line parsing ignores extraneous
parameters, so if you change the 5s to 2s, all the type 5 lines will be
rendered, so you can see where they are.
Regarding the boast mast base - any reason why you have inlined some primitives
at the end?
