Hi, Sorry if multiple postings appear- Netscape on college meachine is
screwed..

Spec :(Topic Ideas) - In no particular order.
         Cordinate Model
         Poloygon Model
            Clipping, Winding
        Color Model
        L-Draw Langauge
             Drawing commands
             Meta commands
            File formats.
        Standrad Parts & Primitives.
        Element numbering Scheme/ Parts Categrisation.
            Parts
            Sets

The following could be working groups in the (VRML  consortia sense).
        Electrical-    Tracing of power-electrical items.
                            Lighting- Sound.
Animation-    Animating models produced by DAT's
                                - movment-motion systems.
Plugin    -       Development of a standrad plugin Architecture
for L-Draw
                                related progs.
Geometries -   How to have "joints" systems.
                            -  Additonaly there is the 'hinge' problem
in steped instructions!
                            -
Track Layout -    How to model lego trains and roadsystems.
-(Simmilar to Loco & Matts Track Designer)
Would also look into having plan views for
Models.
Registry-    A standardised scheme for incoperating new parts.
Distribution- How to modify system for coperative working
(VRML?)
        Render     -    Raytracing?

Decesions reached by the working groups would after consultation become
part of the specification.(and used to devlop a new program...)

Feel free to suggest ommissions or additions.

I am prepared to put in a little effort if needed, but college work must
come first!

It would be an aim of producing the spec. to then use it to write a
program which could be used for Lego(R) CAD purposes.

Ideas for any new version (compiled from reading lugnet.cad.dev):.

    UNIX/Windows/Mac versions.
    CAD Engine seperate :
                 Suppourting 24 Bit Color    - & Alpha?
Using all modern Computer Graphics techniques for
speed.
                 (ie clips,back face culling etc)
Ideally built on top of OpenGL(Mesa).
                Suppourts limited curves.
Face-Texture Mapping for artwork ( using PNG not GIF?)
(NB Sometimes easier to do artwork flat!)
   Suite of programs to do.
                All supourting ideas outline above.
      Parts Libaray:-?
Replace current scheme with object repositry(parts bin).

-Simmilar to componet bar in Delphi.

Model Builder     - Builds Models !-
                    Use parts bin
                    In 3D ? -2D
                    BOM- Parts List
                    Instruction Generation
Layout(Terrain) Designer    - Build Layout of models produced
above.-
                                                    (eg Trains-Roads)
                                                    - Can build
routes-and landscape in which
                                                to  place models.
Train Builder-?    For building up trains of Vehicles-.
        Minfig Modeller    -
Piece-Editor          -    Visual - using Studs as grid?

It fits in. The LDraw format is actually quite flexible.

Yes it is,
Is development of a fuller spec than that in the FAQ being
considered? - outling technical issues for add-on
developers?

Yes.

Play well,

Jacob
