Aside from the clone, other, and fictitious ( Is it fiction if its real? )
parts questions, I began reading to LCAD discussion mainly because of LDRAW.
The fact that LDRAW and LEGO interests functioned together pleased me to no
end, but I really liked that I could produce a file that recorded some of
the thing I had modeled in LEGO to a form in which I could do things such as
add backgrounds and animations that I could not do in the real world.  And
since I've done some remodeling of parts in the real world I thought it
would be nice to have those parts for LDRAW.  Don't misunderstand what I'm
saying, I like LEGO, but I'm more interested in LDRAW itself and the
potential it represents.
