Having just opened one of these up, thought I'd record the part
numbers in case they come in useful in the future.

2880 R  - top plate
2881 R  - bottom plate
2882    - switch blades
2883    - slide switch
2884    - wheel
2890    - trigger shoe
2911    - connector arm

So where does the 2889 part number for the complete part come from?

Hehe,

did the same and here are the pics for it:

The inner parts has been made as DATs from me. So I'll
take them to the tracker.

Hmmm, the 2880 and 2881 are already given to two parts.

2880 - Hinge Bar  2 & 1/2 with 2 and 3 Fingers on Ends
2881 - Hinge Train Pantograph Shoe

These parts, with these numbers, are definitively wrong.

So we need to renumber these two parts.

CU Bernd

Before renumbering we need to understand where these numbers came from. Being
4-digit numbers, we must assume that someone, at some time, thought they were
correct. Nor is it beyond the bounds of possibility that LEGO used the same
number more than once. I'm researching this.

We need to be particularly sensitive about renumbering already official parts
-and we already damaged train models with the necessary correction to the 9V
wheels in 2003-03. Parts 2880 and 2881 are also primarily used in train models,
for pantographs !!

The least disruptive scheme would be  :

Renumber 2880.dat to 2880a.dat and make a ~Moved to file for 2880.
Add the new (Monorail point) 2880 as 2880b. Similarly for 2881. The 2880b and
2881b files are unlikely to be used in isolation, if we use 2882 and 2887 as the
basis for the composite parts. None of the parts have visible external numbers,
so I dont think it matters which of the asymmetric part numbers we use for the
c01 (and c02 ?) complete assembly files.

(...) At the least, 2880 and 2881 are used in James' parts list: (URL) apparently weren't changed in the Purge Of 1998-06. So if the numbers are incorrect, no one knew it back then. Steve (20 years ago, 22-Nov-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

(...) Well this is a problem. But it could occure to more "old" DAT-files. (...) I could live with that. And I also think a "go left/right" and a "go straight" Shortcut _is_ needed. CU bernd (20 years ago, 22-Nov-04, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

(...) Based on a delivery note from Lego for some replacement parts I believe the correct part number for the pantograph arm is 2923 292326 - Black pantograph arm 287126 - Black motor side plate 241226 - Black grille tile now Black is Lego colour 26 (...)
