The curve toward the front is just a 1-8sphe.dat.

That would be a torus with inner radius 0 and outer radius 8, correct? There
are no torus primitives.

It would be nice for a situation like yours. I would recommend doing a 45
degree turn, though, as it would be more generally useful.
