This is a small design study I started quite a while ago. It was in
response to the complaint about the landing gear on TLG's upcoming
X-Wing model.
Of course, one thing led to another, and now I have a completed model
built around this gear design. The model weighs 2 lbs, 13.8 oz, and
the gear seems to be working well. Although I tend to leave the model
sitting vertically on its engines, as I don't completely trust the
gear for long periods of use. Plus, that way less stress is placed on
the wing actuators and hinges.
The nose gear folds back and flips over when retracted and is covered
by a separate gear door (not shown). The two main gear just fold back
and up, and the bottom of the ski acts as a fairing.
The model has a few more of my typically overbuilt features. :-)
