The item is used to seperate two technic beams which have been put together
using pins. Orient both beams so that the studs are up (conventional
thinking). Insert the 2 x 3 plate between the studs where the pin is located
and twist. The beams should come apart with little effort.
I recommend using the 2 x 8 technic plates in the construction of this tool for
another added function. The removal of the 8 tooth gear has been known to
cause severe stress to the average LEGO enthusiast. With this tool, insert
the axle through the holes in the plates and pull through the other side. The
gear should pop right off.
