This is for Jeroen,
This is the design I had worked out for the main landing gear on my
aborted F-14 modelling project.
Turning the axle in the gearbox will cause the gear to retract forward,
with the tire rotating neatly 90 degrees to fit horizontally in the wing
root area . The tire rotation is caused by the folding of the draglink
assembly, forcing the lower section of the strut to rotate.
This is essentially the same way as the real thing works.
Notes:
The blue parts are "faked" parts that are not in the ldraw inventory.
There are two pieces that look similar to the #6553 Technic Pole
Reverser Handle, but are shorter and have an axle hole rather than
an axle. These are simulated here with the 6553 and the Stop Bush
piece melded together. (why this piece is not done, I have no idea)
The other faked part is the friction peg/stop bush combination piece.
The friction peg section is 2 units long with the stop bush at one end.
RED parts:
The two parts shown in red, a 75535 Technic Pin Joiner Round and a
4459 Technic Pin with Friction, are to show where there should be a Lego
type rubber band. It is fastened to the Pin Joiner, looped around the Peg,
then back to the Pin Joiner. This is to ensure the the drag link assembly
folds in the proper direction.
This file has "STEP's" in it to pause at key points.
Hope you enjoy this, as it was a royal pain in the A** to align the
parts in LEdit. :-)
