Hi Ahui,

The tutorial DOES NOT show one how to make a .MPD file via MLCAD.  It
teaches the user the old-fashion way of making an .MPD file via a text editor.

I've debated this issue before with others about teaching new users .MPD
file creation the 'easier' way via MLCAD/LPub or some of the appliacation[1]
but have opted not to.  My thinking is that if the user learns the
foundation of .MPD files then they can opt to use LPub or MLCAD or whatever
else that makes it easier.

[1] I was not aware that LPub cerated .mpd file but what you saves sound
easy and fast.  I have NEVER used MLCAD to make an .mpd file beucase my
LDraw files tend to have 10+ lines of comments about the file before the
actual 1st ldraw part.  I'm a sucker for documentation and I want to make
sure that who ever gets my model knows what to expect.

Oh that gives me an idea for another tutorial (Ldraw model comment etique) =)
What to include in an ldraw file as comments?

Suggestion anyone?  This is what I usually include.

0 FILE model.ldr
0 Name: model.ldr
0 Author: A&M LWorks
0 e-Mail: jedi_agh@yahoo.com
0 http://www.geocities.com/jedi_agh/
0 Unoffical Model
0 This model was bla, bla, bla...
0 This model used xx UNOFFICAL PARTS.  They are
0 xxx.dat
0 yyy.dat

If the file is part of a.mpd file then I also add the following to each file

0 FILE model.ldr
0 Name: model.ldr
0 Author: A&M LWorks
0 e-Mail: jedi_agh@yahoo.com
0 http://www.geocities.com/jedi_agh/
0 Unoffical Model
0 This model was bla, bla, bla...
0 This model used xx UNOFFICAL PARTS.  They are
0 xxx.dat
0 yyy.dat
0 This is .MPD file x of y

Plus is the file is based off someone ele's design of is part of my A&M
LWorks Presents BI series then it goes like so:

0 FILE model.ldr
0 Name: model.ldr
0 Author: A&M LWorks
0 e-Mail: jedi_agh@yahoo.com
0 http://www.geocities.com/jedi_agh/
0 This model was originaly design by Mr. X
0 e-Mail: mr_x@whatever.com
0 Unoffical Model
0 This model was bla, bla, bla...
0 This model used xx UNOFFICAL PARTS.  They are
0 xxx.dat
0 yyy.dat

The more info the better.  This way a user knows what to expect and who to
contact. =)

Hi Ahui, It is easier to create MPD files using LPub than MLCad. You open the top level file in LPub, and then Save As MPD. LPub figures out all the files needed based on the top level file and any of its submodels. plus LPub is *sure* to list the (...) (21 years ago, 16-Apr-03, to lugnet.cad)
