There are two common ways of doing animations with LDraw, one is to
generate (automatically or manually) one single .DAT-file for each
animation frame, and the render them individually to compose a movie.
There has been a lot of discussion about this here lately, and there
appears to be some software development. Off the top of my head, I
can mention projects like LANI, LD4DModeler and LDA. I don't know
about the status of these projects, or any other that I may have
forgotten about, but I'm sure you will find a lot of information here
by searching for them.
The other way is to use L3P to generate a POV-Ray file from your
scene/model, and then working with the animation features inherent in
POV-Ray. For this kind of approach, I would recommend to study the
animation tutorial in the POV-Ray manual, and to search for any
POV-Ray animation tutorials on the net. I found quite some when I did
some searching a few years back, so I'm sure there must be a fair bit
of information available.
