I probably can find this out another way, but thought I'd try here to show that
once in a while there's something I don't know. :-)

I'm running NT 4.0, and it seems that I already registered the .dat
extension with WordPad (although I don't quite recall doing it). So when I try
to connect LdLite either in windows explorer or netscape , it doesn't work for
me... the stuff posted to lugnet.cad.dat comes up in WordPad instead of
rendered.

So I went into explorer and thought I'd make short work of deleting that
registration. But I can't FIND it! I searched every single association and none
of them use the .dat extension. trying to create a new association (explorer:
View/options/filetypes) gives the error "already in use by DAT_auto_file" which
is not in the list.

Am I going to have to muck around in the registry to find it and remove it???
urp.

Silly MS for allowing only one view of the file types, by the name of the
association. Much nicer if I could search by extension. Sigh.

Any ideas?

(...) Try selecting a dat file, shift-right clicking it, then "open with". Select whatever, then tick the "always use this" box. Works for me, except for MS-Paint, which always makes itself the default regardless of that setting. Which is annoying (...) (26 years ago, 15-Oct-98, to lugnet.cad)
