Tom,
LEGO CAD is a program designed to go with LEGO's Dacta educational line. It
is many years old at this point. It now ships on CD-ROM, but the program is
unchanged. It fits onto floppies because, like LDraw, it's files are simply
lines of text describing a model.
Though no longer in production, it is still shipped. A new program, LEGO
Designer, is on it's way. Designer is basically an update to LEGO CAD,
incorporating several of the Dacta modules into a single program. You'll
find more information at the Pitsco/Dacta website @
http://www.pitsco-legodacta.com/
I had a copy of Designer on order as of last week, but I cancelled it.
According to the LEGO web site, designer will be available in August (Pitsco
had no such disclaimer). Pitsco assures me it will be sooner, but blame a
delay in development for not getting me product as promised.
HTH,
Matt
