I have to admit, my LEGO CAD experience is limited to a single program.  I
picked what appeared to be the most popular and best supported, and dove in.

Which one? If you say "LDraw"

Yes, LDraw.

I swear I am gonna give Tim Courtney 100
lashes with a wet noodle next time I see him.

Kinky!

www.ldraw.org puts WAY too
much emphasis on ldraw itself which is arcane, hard to use, and well,
antiquated. Oh, and did I mention hard to use?

Yeah, that's what I said.  Must be how you guessed "LDraw".

Seriously I don't know that any sort of market survey has been taken but I
think MLCad has a lot of adherents. It's pretty well supported by the
author. Feature rich, graphical, easy to use (except for the helps which are
broken, unfortunately) and fast.

Hmm.  Maybe I'll have to try and set it up at some point.

If it ever came down to it, I would probably go Gianluca Morelli's
route first.

What was that, I think I missed it?

Someone in another response showed you an example of MorelliCAD, and I
personally am starting to think it's the best system.

(...) I'll be sure to tell Ann Landers you thought one of her pet phrases was "kinky"... :-) (...) Well, the undo is kind of weak, but it's pretty user friendly. :-) ++Lar (24 years ago, 8-Dec-00, to lugnet.cad)
