I have to admit, my LEGO CAD experience is limited to a single program.  I
picked what appeared to be the most popular and best supported, and dove in.

Which one? If you say "LDraw" I swear I am gonna give Tim Courtney 100
lashes with a wet noodle next time I see him. www.ldraw.org puts WAY too
much emphasis on ldraw itself which is arcane, hard to use, and well,
antiquated. Oh, and did I mention hard to use? That should get me some
flamage.

ROFL! :-)

Well, Lar, you'll be comforted to know that 'we're working on that' and may have
a solution as soon as next week.  I think that a lot of people will be pleased
with what we will put out soon.

I'll make sure no one brings spaghetti to Steve's for the get-together, so you
can't give me those wet noodle lashes, though, just in case.  (are those lashes
sup-pasta hurt?) ;')

Seriously I don't know that any sort of market survey has been taken but I
think MLCad has a lot of adherents. It's pretty well supported by the
author. Feature rich, graphical, easy to use (except for the helps which are
broken, unfortunately) and fast.

MLCad is by far the most popular utility in LCAD right now, and rightfully so.
In fact, it is so much so that the lingo used by the users has switched from
'I'm gonna LDraw that model...' to 'I'm gonna MLCad that model...'
Understandable, but I think that there should be strong mental recognition
between MLCad and the official source of the parts, etc.  Hence, what is being
worked on with LDraw.org currently.

I set FUT lugnet.cad as I am sure CAD authors want to hear your experiences
and what criteria led you to pick the one you picked, etc. And I'm SURE Tim
and the rest of the ldraw.org maintainers want to make sure that there's not
a bias to ldraw that drives novices away.

We definitely would.  I have some 'free time' before finals and will do what I
can to study how to put more emphasis on the new stuff and try to implement it.
