Lego Modulex parts for LDraw?

I know that some of the Lego Modulex parts have been created for LDraw, but I
cannot find the files, I can only find the reference page illustrating them:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/chris.w.dee/Modulex/

I want to use the files to do some instructions for Lego Modulex designs. Can
anyone point me in the correct direction?

Thank you,
Karyn

Since Tore's page:

http://news.lugnet.com/cad/dat/parts/?n=5895

is down I've got a copy directly form Chris Dee. Just drop him a line at:

<{chris_w_dee@hotmail.}AntiSpam{com}>

Hope this helps,

w.

Tore, I've sent a mail to your swipnet mail, but I don't know if it is still
working. If you need a place for your files, I can store them somewhere at
blockcad.net - there's still plenty of room left.

This is what I've found. Probably Chris has some more(?)
http://cid-7183b586c107b55b.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/LDraw/modulex.zip
(33kb, 51 files, Zip file created Apr 11, 2006)

Hope this link works. I'm really not comfortable with making links to SkyDrive
and Flickr.

Best would be submitting to the PT since we also have:

Mursten: http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptscan.cgi?q=mursten
Duplo: http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptscan.cgi?q=duplo
Quatro: http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptscan.cgi?q=quatro
Minitalia: http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptscan.cgi?q=Minitalia

there. I cannot see any reason why we shouldn't have Modulex.

Yes, maybe so. I would love to see them there, but I forsee huge discussions on,
for example:
* Scale. We decided earlier to use a different scale than other parts from LEGO.
That may likely be discussed again. I think the only reasonable approach is to
continue with this special Modulex scale and if needed scale down the Modulex
sub-model by 0.625 if mixed with other LEGO. If we use the same scale as the
rest of LEGO parts, it will be virtually impossible to build anything in for
example ML-Cad.
* If we add Modulex parts, will we also add Modulex colours to LDConfig.ldr? I
would like it there, but I can accept a separate config file as I think 99% of
LDrawers will never use them.
* Naming discussions. Is a part of half-brick height really a plate, or is it a
semi-brick? Or something else?
And so on...

At first thought I am with you, but at second thought I feel that it should not
be on the parts tracker.
As far as I know the modulex parts do not fit in real life with the LEGO System
Bricks.
So the modulex is much different than the other themes listed.

I think you are right. I wouldn't mind them being on the PT, but I will not work
for it.

However, I think there should be a permanent "official" or at least
semi-official respority for them somewhere. Chris started out good, but I guess
like for me other things took over. But it would be nice with a site where users
can choose to either download the dat files one by one or in one single zip
file. And also where authors can contribute with new dat files themselves,
without waiting for the site owner to add the contributions.

I am not the man to build the framework for a site with such features. Or is
there some free place like SourceForge or this Google thingie that accepts joint
projects like that? Or would it be a proper place with some wiki whatever,
within LDraw.org but outside the PT? Or is there already a place where we just
can add a new sub-category?

I don't know. Anybody has any idea here?

The Wiki can host the page put the upload has to be done somewhere else. You
really won't try the uploader used for our CMS. A separate PT would obviously be
a total different story or a new CMS.

How about importing them into a free source-control hosting service like Google
Code or GitHub? That way anyone can contribute and download quite easily, and
there's very little setup and maintenance work for anyone to do.

Yeah, that's exactly one of those things I had in mind. I don't know wxactly how
they work and if this project would be in line with their terms of use, but that
would maybe work?

That sounds like a challenge to me! (surely someone knows some way they interact
:) ) If someone showed a way these interoperated would that make a different
answer? I don't think LDraw should host clone parts, but these are actually made
by LEGO :)

That said, what does Dave S do with his Megablocks parts? Maybe that would be a
non parts tracker approach to use?
