Hey,
a new version of our converter is online. He now is capable of generating files
for the LD4DStudio, too (first draft): a very rudimentary project file (4pj; if
it does not exist) and a package file (4pk) with actors, a monitor, controls
etc. Currently, this additional generation is only possible while you choose to
generate a mpd file.
[Extract from LXFML Tags.doc]:
2.10 Model
In LXFML a Model is intended to be a connected structure that is equivalent to a
model that you can hold in your hand. It is however not a requirement that a
Model is interconnected, or for that matter that a single interconnected
structure is contained in a single Model element. It is only meant as a good
hint; in the future we may be less lax in this.
2.11 Group
A Group contain a list of Parts; it defines a local coordinate system for these
Parts. A Model element is made up of one or more Group elements. All Groups are
placed in the world coordinate system.
2.12 Joints
A connection between two Group elements inside the same Model element is
described by a Joint element. This jointed structure is not limited to describe
a hierarchy but may also form a looping graph.
Joints are described by a position and two perpendicular axes. Currently two
types of joints are defined: the ball joint and the hinge joint[...]
[End of Extract]
Each LDD-model becomes a LD4D-actor.
Each LDD-group becomes a LD4D-part.
Each LDD-hinge-joint generates two LD4D-points and (if there is no looping
graph) a LD4D-joint and a LD4D-angle-control (z-axis) with rotation value.
Each LDD-ball-joint (very rare) generates two LD4D-points and (if there is no
looping graph) a LD4D-joint and three LD4D-controls (x-, y-, z-axis) WITHOUT
rotation values. Due to this some results may look strange but you can change
the angles manually (via LD4D-control).
You can download the new converter at:

I hope I did not forget anything.
If you want to start LD4DStudio with the External Application function you may
use "%outputFileDirectory%%outputFileName%.4pj" as Arguments.
Comments and feedback are welcome.

| I am sorry but I made a little mistake. While I was refactoring I destroyed the calculation of the hinge joint angles. I have fixed this (version 0.2.1): (URL) (15 years ago, 18-Aug-09, to lugnet.cad)

| Hey, in a social network (XING.com) a member (Ulf Rupprecht) asked for a tool to convert lxf (LDD) to ldraw files and I started researching. I ended by reading the entry from Duane Hess ((URL) 'I don't like having to use LDD as an intermediary when (...) (15 years ago, 25-Jul-09, to lugnet.cad) !
