You can do this directly in your LDraw model.

The most direct way is to open your model file in a text editor (like Notepad).
Then add a new line for your reduced-scale model:

1 16 0 0 0 .5 0 0 0 .5 0 0 0 .5 MyHalfScaleModel.ldr

The three .5 parameters cause the embedded model to be at half-scale.  You can
change these values to any multiplier you want: use 2 for double-size, .1 for
10%, etc, etc.

Save the file, and it should be render-able immediately.  Plus, you can still
use MLCAD to edit your model file.
