I am working on a project for MLCad, which makes viewing and finding parts
easier. I would like my work to be available for people to download, but it
requires Ldraw, MLCad and official Ldraw parts files to be downloaded in a
package. I would like to know if it is legal to have this file available for
download from my personal website?

Is it ok?

Who can I contact?

Many Thanks

Hi Ryan,

Sorry to tell you but it would not be legal. The only site that can deliver the
parts is http://www.ldraw.org. At present there is no way around this.

Tim

A very quick check with Google--

http://bricksmith.sourceforge.net/

A web page that isn't LDRAW.org (but has obvious links to same) that has it's
own download package which includes the LDraw library.

In my history with virtual LEGO bricks, I've stumbled across a few sites that
offer the LDraw library with their software.

And since, as Danny pointed out, there is an OPL, why can't someone legally
package the LDraw library with whatever they want?

Hi all,

Many thanks for your replies.

This project isn’t anything major. All it is an excel file that you can use as a
template to update the parts tree list helping to arrange a display parts more
neatly, categorised…. Then contents from the excel template can be copied and
used to overwrite the LDraw parts list file and MLCad Parts Tree List.

I wanted to included all official parts etc.. in a package as I have them neatly
categorized in subfolders within the LDraw Parts folder.
e.g
Parts/Parts-Main
Parts/Parts-Sub
Parts/Parts-Modified
Parts/Parts-Updated
….etc

It just makes working with parts much more easily.

I will have the excel file up for download soon and a webpage explaining this
project, screenshot, etc... Just waiting for hosting company to get back to me.
