I've been playing with PNG transparency in POV-Ray and discovered an interesting
effect.
POV-Ray considers a ray that hits the backdrop as transparent, yet the color of
the invisible backdrop still affects the rendering of the model.
When transparent clear parts are in a model, they pick up the color of
neighboring parts, but when rendered by themselves they can only pick up color
from the lights and the background. Before using alpha channel transparency,
transparent clear parts in part list images basically just came up white.
Now I provide a dark grey backdrop for transparent clear, and black for all
other transparent parts. The parts have much higher contrast.
