Position statement
Gudday people,
I guess you might want to know who is Andrew and where does he stand?
Im an Australian who just happens to be the author of Mac Brick CAD (MBC). My
personal involvement with LDRAW first began back in 2001 when I decided to see
if there was any CAD programs that simulated the construction of Lego models (so
I guess Im a relative newcomer).
As I prefer to use a Macintosh (when possible), my choices were much more
limited than those who preferred to use a PC. As a programmer in LDRAW, I
started in 2001 by porting the then current version of Don Heyses LdGLite
program to run in MacOS 9 then Based on this experience, I eventually decided
that I should write my own interpretation tailored specifically for the
Macintosh. The first results began being published in late 2002 and development
continues
As a Lego user, like the majority of us I started as a child and I have never
really stopped since. These days I work more in virtual Lego (than in real Lego)
as my brick collection is in Australia while I work (for the moment) as an expat
in Peru.
While I might be a Mac evangelist, the LDRAW format and community is platform
neutral (except for maybe Lego bricks) and therefore is to be treated treated as
such. As an professional engineer my philosophy to keep things concise and if
possible simple, therefore if elected Id be concerned with the following:
* Furthering of the LDRAW format for a wider audience
* Re-formalise of the META Commands, depreciate of the no longer used ones and
formally include of the appropriate private ones.
* Consider furthering the LDRAW file format to take into account the way modern
graphics applications operate.
* Keep focus that our core and existence are ourselves (the users) and that we
do this for fun.
Andrew
