  Re: 3D laser scanning

(...) Can any of the experienced part authors confirm whether Darrell's files are suitable for making an LDraw part? From the visuals they look pretty good, but I'm no expert on the details needed to convert this type of model into a real part file. (...)   Re: How to obtain good photographs to make head patterns?

(...) I think that making good photos is the best way. You need a camera with good optical zoom, make your photos directly in front of head, and from a distance to minimize field of view. The photo you get is not very different from a projection on (...) (14 years ago, 21-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

  Re: 3D laser scanning

(...) I finished the other helmet in the magnet pack yesterday ("Senate Commando"), but I guess that wasn't the one you were looking for.. Has someone already done a DAT file for that? Or for the last figure in the pack, "Ashoka Tano"? If someone's (...) (14 years ago, 20-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

Re: How to obtain good photographs to make head patterns?

(...) Here are some ideas: 1. If you know the exact physical dimensions/characteristics of your digital camera (focal length, aperture, diode size, etc.) I bet you can find a tool or collection of algorithms online that you can use to convert the (...)   Re: SR 3D Builder 0.5.6.6 released

(...) I would just like to direct your attention to a bug I am experiencing. In Windows 7 the dialogs and menus all seem to appear misaligned for some reason. Screenshot: (URL) think it has to do with the text sizes I am using in my Windows theme. (...) (14 years ago, 20-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

How to obtain good photographs to make head patterns?

The technique I've been using to make minifig torsos can be extended to heads, but I have one critical problem that I haven't been able to figure out yet: Before tracing an image, I need an image that is facing the camera head-on. Normally to get a (...) (14 years ago, 19-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Here's what it looks like shaded in Rhino, in case you couldn't visualize the surface in the other pics. (2 URLs) (14 years ago, 19-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: 3D laser scanning

OK, this took a couple of hours of work (remember I'm learning as I go along). It's still a little crude, and there are a few holes in the overhangs, but it's a start! (URL) you guys still use Brickshelf? I hope I remembered how to do that (...) (14 years ago, 19-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad)

  Re: 3D laser scanning

WOW!! I am surprised the scanned results are usable /AT ALL/!!!! I'm generally completely skeptical about technology's ability to perform such tasks. I.e. almost 100% of the time a human operator is what is needed to achieve usable results. (...) (14 years ago, 19-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

  LDView browser plugin?

Are there any plans on creating an LDView-based browser plugin? It would be nice if a plugin were added to the Firefox or Chrome plugin libraries, as well as automatically loaded and found when encountering LDraw files. -Mike (14 years ago, 19-Mar-11, to lugnet.cad.dev)
